Don’t let summer’s heat, humidity, sun, and wind wreak havoc on your hair! Fight back with these handy tips by celebrated beauty expert and cosmetologist Bharti Taneja.
- Shampoo as needed.
Summer temperatures make your scalp oily, so it’s important to keep it clean and sweat free. During the hot months you can keep a gap of two days between shampooing for normal hair, a gap of three days for dry hair, and can wash the oily hair every alternative day.
- Condition naturally
The deep nourishing conditioners are not meant for the hot months of summer. Add one lemon juice or one tablespoon of vinegar to your last rinse after shampooing for some effortless conditioning and healthy sheen.
- Wet hair before swimming
What’s summer without some pool fun? However it is important to protect your hair before taking the plunge. Dry hair soaks up more salt water and chlorine than already-wet hair — which means dry hair incurs more damage after swimming. Use plain tap water to soak hair before you take the plunge.
- Try Hair tonic
Be it any season, a good head massage is always excellent for hair health. It rejuvenates the hair wonderfully and gives them a healthy shine. During summers, it’s ideal to do the massage with a hair tonic instead of a hair oil. Hair tonic is usually alcohol and water based, which is why it doesn’t make the scalp greasy.
- Indulge your tresses
Once a week, give your hair a refreshing break and intensive repair time by applying a hair mask. Make your own hair mask at home for gorgeously silky tresses. Take two spoons of 1 tbsp multani mitti, 1 tbsp chandan powder and one egg. Add a few drops of neem juice and curd to it. Now mix them well to make a fine paste and apply it on hair. For some uplifting colour you can add some beetroot juice to this mask.
- Cover of care
A stylish way to protect your hair from harsh heat of summer is to flaunt a chic hat or vibrant umbrella. Both protect the hair and skin from harmful rays of skin and look fashionable too. Pick the ones that suit your attire and stand out as a style icon.
- Cool hairstyles
With the soaring mercury and sweltering heat, it’s difficult to keep your hair open. The excessive sweating ruins all – the sleek look of straight hair and bounce of curly hair. During summers the best way to beat the heat is to flaunt a chic braid, bun or ponytail. Try out a messy side bun or braid or a neatly tied ponytail to give a stylish head start to your day.
