Who are we?
We are a highly motivated, close-knit team of social workers committed to our mission of helping women attain economic and social independence. Founded in 2017 by beauty icon Ms Bharti Taneja, The Bharti Taneja Foundation closely works with underprivileged women from the slum areas of Delhi.
The purpose of our existence is to help women realize their true potential, develop their own skills and live a life of dignity. To see every woman stand on her feet and lead a respectable life is the vision of our founder Ms Barti Taneja. We firmly believe that women empowerment holds the key to a truly developed nation. When a woman is given a chance to use her full potential, she climbs the ladder of success and also pushes the entire society towards prosperity.
What do we do?
Our day starts with treading down the narrow lanes of Delhi slums where we meet and counsel young girls and their parents to encourage their girls to become self-dependent. Changing the orthodox mindset of most parents is a crucial part of what we do. We explain to them that how an educated and working woman lays the foundation for a prospering family and a strong society. Like men, women should also be allowed to chase their dreams and pursue a career of their choice.
Once the counseling is done, we enroll the girls in our vocational beauty courses. These professional courses in skin, hair, and makeup are provided free of cost at Alps Academy. We also offer personality development and life skills classes to boost their confidence and self-esteem. The girls go through a training along with grooming ,personality development ,Life skills and English-speaking sessions. Our endeavor is to not just train them as beauty professionals but also transform them into strong, confident and independent women of today.
The professional courses are carefully designed keeping in mind the needs of the beauty industry. Along with in-depth theory classes, a rigorous practical training instills confidence in them. Ms Bharti Taneja along with her daughters Ms Gunjan Gaur personally mentor these girls and motivate them to have a ‘go-getter’ attitude in life. The NGO also offers placement assistance after the course.
Is that all?
No, that’s not all. Such is our commitment to giving back to the society that we keep on looking for more and more ways to help the less privileged. We know that people living in the slum areas do not really have easy access to good medical guidance. So we regularly organize health camps where we provide free eye check-up, diabetes test etc to these people. Through these health camps, we also try to create awareness about the importance of clean surroundings and personal hygiene.
When the source of income is limited, one is forced to live a life of deprivation. A good, hearty meal and clean clothes are probably a few of those things that slum dwellers often crave for. So our routine work also includes free food and clothes distribution in the slum areas. It is one of those smallest things that brings the biggest smile on those marginalized faces.
What motivates us?
Motivation comes easy when you have a visionary and philanthropist like Ms Bharti Taneja around. Her entrepreneurial journey is a testament to her belief and solid conviction in the potential of women and their ability to do a work as well as any man. She is a powerhouse of positivity and immense energy. Her passion is contagious and her commitment to ‘giving back’ is inspiring.
She motivates us to find more ways to reach out to the less fortunate and empower as many women as possible. Her idea of philanthropy goes beyond cutting a cheque. “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”, she always says.
